Finding and accessing your courses

Note: you can only see your course after your professor makes it active/available to students. If the class has already started and you still don’t see your registered course in Brightspace, please contact your professor.

Your professor may customize the course menu to fit the course’s needs. You’ll always be able to access your Grades, Class ProgressQuizzes, and Assignments.

Submitting Assignments

You can access assignments from the Assignments link on the course top navigation bar or from a Content page.

Troubleshoot issues with submitting assignments

If you’re encountering issues, email your professor and help@journalism.cuny.edu.

Viewing Class Progress

Participate in class discussions

Access discussion forums and topics from the Discussions link on the course top navigation bar or a Content page where your professor posts each of them.

Using the Quizzes tool

You can access quizzes, tests, and exams from the Quizzes link on the course top navigation bar or from the Content page where your professor posts each of them.

Watch a short video below to learn how to take a quiz, test, or exam.

Viewing quiz grades and attempts

Access your quiz grades on the Grades page in your course navbar. But to access your quiz attempts to see the quiz questions, your answers and/or correct answers, you will need to go to the Quizzes page.

Supporting tools provided by the school

Need more help? Email the Support Team at help@journalism.cuny.edu

Make sure to give us everything we need to understand, prioritize, and resolve the issue quickly.

Here’s what a good support ticket should include, from most important to nice-to-have:

  • Summarize the issue in one line
    • Example: “Unable to access email – password rejected”
    • Avoid vague titles like “Help” or “Computer problem.”
  • Explain the problem clearly and concisely:
    • What application were you using?

    • What course are you working on?

    • What were you trying to do?

    • What actually happened?

    • What did you want to happen instead?

    • Exact error messages (copy/paste if possible)
